One teacher was supporting a large Grade 8 cohort in which many students were below grade level and had different prerequisite gaps. Thirty-five percent were English learners who also had to navigate the language of math, and many students were reluctant to raise a hand when they needed help.
During a two-week pilot, teachers assigned focused Coaching Workshops for different gaps. StarCoach provided one-to-one guidance while teachers worked directly with small groups.
The SBA math pass rate increased 8.3 percentage points year over year—a 35% relative gain. The teacher also reported that students finished the exam earlier and came out more confident. The principal then adopted StarCoach schoolwide for 12 months.
Evidence note: This is a year-over-year cohort comparison from a school pilot, not a randomized or controlled study. The result should not be interpreted as proof that StarCoach alone caused the change.

Across the pilot, 1,413 students exchanged 78,058 coaching messages with StarCoach and voluntarily returned at night and on weekends to ask questions and keep learning.
Teachers can use the first two Coaching Workshops in each unit with their own students. Schools and education partners can begin with a defined group, a clear goal, and evidence before expanding.
